Macular degeneration is the most common cause of blindness among people 55 and over who once had normal eyesight. That’s why it is often called age-related macular degeneration, or AMD. It can also occur rarely among younger people within a six to twenty year age span. It also falls short of effectively avoiding or treating it, considering it to be incurable and only poorly managed with harsh treatments. This article explores a newly discovered source of macular degeneration and its prevention as well as natural remedies that include eating the right foods and cannabis.

  • Natural Remedies for Macular Degeneration and Healthy Vision

Another likely but consistently neglected cause of age-related macular degeneration appears to be early exposure to the blue-light hazard from fluorescent lamps which damages many photoreceptors in young eyes exposed to them and so uses up the limited renewal capacity of these receptors. By the time these early-exposed people age, that renewal capacity is gone, and the macula begins to degenerate, as now observed earlier and earlier in the first generation of children who grew up under fluorescent lamps in their class rooms. For a more detailed analysis of this argument, see my article "Is fluorescent light safe for childrens' eyes?" posted at http://retinopathyofprematurity.org/maculardegeneration01.htm.
